Why an Adventure Holiday Reinvigorates More Than a Beach Holiday
There is a school of thought that you are likely to feel more tired at the end of the day when you do nothing than one when you have been active all day. It may all be in the mind of course but it is worth looking more closely at your holiday choices, and deciding what you really need from your holiday before you return to work.
There is an argument that someone who is really fit could not possibly pick a holiday lying on a beach but what is the situation for someone who is average all round? If you are reasonably fit and are really looking forward to a holiday away from the pressures of work, it is often because you are mentally tired rather than physically tired. If you find it naturally difficult to relax and clear your mind, lying on a beach may be of limited value, or will it?
Both an adventure holiday and time by the beach have a couple of definite things in common; a change of environment and fresh air. If you live and work in a city, it is great to get away for a while but which of the alternatives of ‘’beach’’ or ‘’adventure’’ will bring you back more refreshed? For the sake of judging beach against adventure it is fair to assume you are not travelling with children because the beach will win most times while children may not be eligible for most adventure holidays.
You will only pick a beach holiday in a good climate so it is almost certain you will arrive to find the sun. It is your invitation to do nothing except soak up the rays by day and enjoy the resort’s facilities by night, bar, restaurant, casino and night club. How many hours you spend before getting up and retiring for the night will probably vary. It is a temptation to have late nights because there is no work in the morning.
Unless you have selected a particularly popular resort, there will be fewer crowds than you experience in daily life in the city.
As the days go by, you will develop a suntan and look very healthy but whether you are getting much sleep may be open to debate.
There is no doubt that an adventure holiday is more exciting. You may get an adrenalin rush even before you reach your destination. You will be prepared for something new, whatever adventure you book; a safari, trekking and climbing or perhaps sailing? The priority of such a holiday is never going to be late nights nor alcohol really. If you are out in the natural environment anywhere in the world, the likelihood is that you will have an early night ready for the next day. That will hardly apply in the case of a beach holiday.
As you take in your great surroundings, you will hardly give your daily life a second thought. Ironically, a recent study suggests that Australians are becoming increasingly stressed. They have some of the best beaches in the world so obviously the beaches are not working their magic in Australia.
Even if you are not especially fit, the environment is likely to be motivation for doing more than you thought you were capable of doing. There is no suggestion that your fitness levels will rise magically but they should improve.
As you complete any task during an adventure holiday you will get a sense of accomplishment. Your awareness of your surroundings, and nature in general, will be heightened during the period of your holiday and as it finishes, there is a strong case to suggest you will have learnt more about nature, as well as yourself. It is likely that your confidence will increase the more you achieve, and that in itself will reduce any stress you may have been feeling before you set out.
Everyday there will be something new on your adventure. You may have started out from one point and are proceeding to a final destination, whether it is down a river or following a land trail. Each day will inevitably bring new sights and sounds to stimulate you so that when you retire to bed, even after an exhausting day, your mind will be full of what you have seen that day, and what you are expecting to see the next. That is particularly the case when you are on safari where nothing is guaranteed but something can appear at any time.
One of the things about adventure holidays is that they tend to attract like-minded people. There is every chance of making new friends and sharing memories that will last a lifetime.
When you go on holiday, you may not be looking for stimulation. If you get a break from your familiar routine you are happy. There is absolutely nothing wrong in lying on the beach all day, the occasional swim and perhaps some snorkeling? After a quick shower and change there are drinks before dinner and then a nice meal. When you return home with your suntan, there is no doubt that you will look healthy though whether you are truly reinvigorated will be questionable. There will even be a question about whether your alcohol consumption has risen dramatically while you were on holiday.
In contrast, an adventure holiday offers a huge amount of stimulation, and often a different outlook both on life and the world. The challenges of work may well seem less testing after you have achieved so much while you were away. Increasingly, there are companies offering different adventures on every continent and while you are young enough and moderately fit they present a challenge that you should seriously consider. Early nights might not sound too appealing but that is a very small price to pay for a real adventure; a challenge faced and well met. You may well return home ready for anything!
